fixed rejecting promise invoking callbacks

reduces unneeded promise wrap
fixed cases where the first argument is callback was set despite success
added missing returns in awaitResponse
made defaults arrow functions, and commented out their defaults to prevent unsused vars
added missing returns for status functions
